Safety First

In inspecting a 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformer, make sure that you are wearing the right personal protective equipment because the pad-mounted gear is known to contain high voltage.

Not wearing the appropriate protective attire can result in serious personal injuries or death.

The precautions may vary from company operating procedures and as well as the rules.

It is expected that there will be a discrepancy wherein both users and operators should follow.

DAELIM’s 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformers come with in-air insulation and as well as in-air switching, and as well as a quick convenient fuse handling to an elbow-connected gear.

How to Install 1000 KVA Pad-mounted transformer?

DAELIM personally assists their customers on how to operate the gear, but if you are curious about how to work on it, this is how it usually goes, but first, it is important to keep in mind that there are different configurations of P.M.E pad-mounted gear.

For instance, a 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformer with 2 compartments on one side (the side that has ruptor switches) and another 2 compartments on the other side (that has the fuses in it).

The first thing you should do, of course, is to open the doors of either of the compartment.

The DAELIM 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformer comes with a lock for safety purposes. So, remove that first.

You will then need a Penta-head socket wrench (this could vary) into the latching mechanism.

Afterwards, you rotate it counterclockwise in order to loosen the door’s tight security.

It is important to not apply any additional force in opening the doors because this can potentially damage the latching mechanism.

By disengaging the latching of the left door mechanism (by turning it clockwise), you will then be able to open each door fully.

But always remember to latch the door holders (for double door models). The purpose of this is to mitigate the exposure.

inside a pad-mounted transformer are the mini ruptor switches (on one side).

It is a 3 pole 600 amperes switch that functions are to transfer between different sources of power.

Moreover, this can be operated outside of its enclosure.

When it comes to the operating shaft, it is basically used to take control of the switch.

In terms of its location, it can be found on the side with respect to the location of the switch.

If you are planning on opening or closing the switch, you must first carefully remove the padlock first.

Afterwards, you will then need to open the switch operating shaft access cover.

Lastly, it is important that you remove the folding switch handle from its storage pocket that is behind the access cover.

The next step would be to unfold the handle and then slide it onto the hex, which is the operating shaft.

Keep in mind the switch position indicator because this will guide on where you should angle yourself and where to turn it as well.

Not following this indicator could quickly result in damage.

You have the option to either rest the tool in an open or closed position.

The arrows will indicate where is close and open.

Once again, after locking it in, you need to rotate the handle in the right direction to open or close the switch.

The switch position indicator will be the one that will verify the switch in the desired position, you will be then able to verify the closed or open setting of the mini raptor.

To do this, you must thoroughly inspect the blades.

There will be a viewing window in the compartment of the switch terminator to enable its operators or users to do a visual verification of the position of the blade. Usually, in a closed position, the tool will be standing upwards while an open position is on a resting setting.

But this could vary on the model of the 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformer.

By removing the switch operating handle and tucking it safely back to its enclosure, will keep them protected.

Just make sure to close it tightly and properly lock its padlock back. DAELIM strongly recommends not leaving the switch-operating-shaft access cover open or unlocked because this can easily be tampered with.

Always take the time to confirm if you have properly closed and locked the switch-operating-shaft access cover.

You can also inspect through the viewing window by checking the position of the switchblades to see if they are in the correct position.

DAELIM’s 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformer is equipped with a unique transformer mounting fuse mechanism that is interconnected with the load break.

DAELIM also provided their 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformer with load break inserts and load break elbows to permit safe switching with elbows.

You must do your part in opening the mini-ruptor switches before you proceed to ensure safety.

The failure to open the switches when deadbreak inserts and elbows are being used can result in a dangerous flashover and serious injuries.

This goes to say that you must carefully and thoroughly inspect the 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformer to ensure that it is ready and safe for operation.

How to Access the Fuses of 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformers?

To access the fuses of 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformers, you must first, of course, open wide the enclosure’s doors.

Next, use a shotgun stick to apply a compact feed through the standoff insulator that can be located on the parking stand.

This part is directly above the cable guide of the elbow.

This method helps ensure that the elbow is moved and that the cable will not be able to disrupt or interfere with the mounting of the transfuser.

With the shotgun stick that you previously used, follow DAELIM’s elbow manufacturer’s instruction to achieve a successful load brake operation.

Carefully remove the brake elbow and make sure to not drop it.

Thus, interrupts the load that is flowing through the fuse to be taken out. Afterwards, carefully move the elbow to the compact feed or to the standoff insulator for safety precautions.

How to replace the fuse of the 1000 KVA Pad-mounted transformer?

As mentioned, there are fuses inside a pad-mounted transformer, no matter what the pad-mounted transformer size is. This is installed for safety purposes.

However, when it comes to changing fuses, the interface is not supposed to be covered since this component will have to be exposed in the meantime.

Depending on what your situation is, DAELIM will or will not require it, this means that the interface may or may not be covered with an insulating protective cap.

However, in the case that there is no drain wire, a cap with a drain wire must be utilized.

It is important to know that the operation of the TransFuser mechanism is expected to attract grounded drain wire inside a pad-mounted transformer, which can result in a flashover that can cause serious injuries.

Another warning, if the elbows are being stored on a feed-through or standoff insulator for a long time, you must cover the interface with an insulating protective cap with a drain.

Moreover, you are also responsible for linking the drain wire to its bail.

Without this, this can yet again cause another flashover and result in serious injuries and also permanent damage to the 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformers.

When it comes to before the operation, it is recommended that the cap and drain wire should be taken off,

Not removing this component will disrupt the operation of the transfuser mechanism, which should never be disturbed. Once the elbow has been taken off and mounted on a particular feed or standoff insulator, this will result in the transfuser mechanism now be operable.

With the help of the shotgun stick, you must carefully raise the interlock to be able to access the transfuser mounting.

It is expected that it cannot be interlocked until the elbow has been completely removed.

The guards are protecting the fuse while it is carrying current.

Make sure that you secure the shotgun stick to the pull ring that is located at the bottom part inside a pad-mounted transformer or the lower part of the transfuser specifically.

Moreover, you must be careful of how you use your shotgun stick.

Do not ratchet the shotgun stick too tight when you are securing the pole ring, because this can affect the movement of the transfer mounting, which is something you should definitely avoid.

With an outward pull motion, carefully rotate the transfuser mounting to expose the fuse.

Don’t be surprised that it will move fast because that is how it usually goes. Just take better control of the shotgun stick.

Inspect if the mounting is latched before proceeding to remove the shotgun stick, you can then disengage the shotgun stick from the pole ring to use the shotgun stick.

You need to push against the top of the mounting to make sure that it is fully locked on.

With the transfer mounting successfully latched in a position that is open, the fuse will then be de-energized.

In other words, it is isolated from high-voltage and no longer accessible for removing the mount.

Keep in mind that you should never close a door on a transfuser mounting when it is in an open position with a fuse that is also into the mounting.

This is because the door can directly hit the fuse’s pole ring, which can interfere with its operation.

The door may be closed if the fuse is being removed from the mounting.

Afterwards, you can then safely and carefully remove the fuse from the transfuser mounting.

DAELIM’s 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transforer gear is enhanced with transfuser mounting that is compatible with several types of fuses.

Returning the Fuse to the 1000 kVA Pad-mounted Transformer

Make sure you do your part in securing the shotgun stick tightly to the pull ring with the right orientation to keep it stable.

The body must be below the stick. Use both of your hands to get a better grip, so that the fuse will not suddenly slip out and fall.

Carefully lift the fuse and lower it into the cradle of the fuse mounting.

Now that the fuse is properly placed in the cradle, you will then need to push the cradle gently forward to keep it in a good position.

Slowly disconnect the shotgun stick from the fuse.

To check if the fuse is properly connected in the fuse mounting, push it a bit with your shotgun stick, if it does not wobble, that means it is tightly latched onto the transfuser mounting.

Pull-on the fuse assembly by focusing the ring of the stick to the opening of the fuse.

After successful installation or replacement of the fuse, simply close the transfuser mounting. But this time with an outward pull.

Double-check if the mounting is fully latched on to the position before you take away your shotgun stick.

You can push again with your shotgun stick to see if it wobbles or not.

You will then need to lower the interlock to secure the transfuser mounting.
