How Do Power Transformers Work?

Here’s how a power transformer works; When an alternating current is given to the primary winding, an alternating magnetic flux is created in the iron core. The majority of this flux remains within the core, and only a small portion of it flows through the air.

The alternating magnetic flux in the iron core then connects the turns of the secondary windings, causing a voltage to be generated. It explains why the main has a voltage, and the secondary has a voltage, but they are not connected.
